Charles Schwab said on August 27, 2026 that it plans to add Solana, Avalanche and Chainlink to Schwab Crypto in the coming months, widening a mainstream brokerage’s altcoin menu even as the assets remain uninsured and unavailable to some U.S. clients.
The brokerage giant confirmed the expansion in an official announcement, saying the three tokens would join bitcoin and ethereum on its platform. Schwab said Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX) and Chainlink (LINK) will be added to Schwab Crypto, the direct-trading service the firm began rolling out to clients in May 2026. The service lets clients trade digital assets alongside traditional investments on Schwab.com, Schwab Mobile and thinkorswim. Schwab said pricing is 75 basis points on the dollar value of each trade.
The rollout builds on Schwab’s earlier step into digital assets, when it began offering bitcoin and ethereum trading to U.S. users. Adding three separate altcoins signals a wider asset menu rather than a single-token experiment.
Why the Move Matters for Crypto Access
For a recognizable traditional-finance brand, expanding beyond the two largest cryptocurrencies broadens the choices available to retail investors who prefer to keep digital assets inside an established brokerage. The tokens themselves are not the only brokerage crossing into new digital-asset territory; Ripple’s institutional arm recently moved into US equity derivatives through its Delta One business, underscoring how quickly the line between crypto and traditional finance is thinning.

Schwab’s choice of SOL, AVAX and LINK leans toward large, liquid ecosystems rather than smaller tokens. Solana was trading near a market capitalization of about $63.1 billion, one reason it fits a cautious expansion strategy.
The backdrop is a broadly risk-on market, with the Fear and Greed Index reading 71, or “Greed,” on the day of the announcement. That sentiment favors expansion, though it can reverse quickly, and the underlying assets carry their own volatility.
The bull case is convergence: a mainstream brokerage adding multiple well-known tokens reflects demand for more diversified digital-asset exposure inside regulated accounts. The bear case is caution baked into the fine print.
